For the fifth time: family days in Balatonmáriafürdő

We spent colourful, experience-filled days at Lake Balaton. This time, music filled every day of the camp.

We made music with homemade instruments and with our own instruments. On the afternoon of the third day, Simon Fejér presented Hangszervándor – Instruments from the Four Corners of the World.

Through the story of Shiriki, the Indigenous boy, we heard instruments from as far away as China and Mongolia and discovered the slit drum.

Our guest on the first day was Mátyás Sőnfeld. He brought his Zenebatyu collection and, to our delight, his guitar too. He also brought straws, a rubber glove, a bucket, a spring, laser light and a jug.

We made music with all of them, or used music and sound to make something happen. We had never seen instruments like these before: ordinary objects came alive as eco-instruments in Matyi's hands. Even Darth Vader made an appearance…

Matyi returned in the evening, and because of the fire ban we gathered around an imaginary campfire. We sang and celebrated together.

Music therapy took centre stage on our first full day. Music therapists Márta Mihály-Somogyi, Mónika Tóth and Ádám Csete joined us, assisted by AAC specialist and conductor Anna Langné Felföldi and conductor Tamara Nagy.

During the first half of the day we looked back at the previous months, then entered a world of pirates and became adventurous sailors ourselves. We found a map in a bottle and set sail in search of treasure.

Along the way, we faced different challenges: we chased away sirens and lulled a kraken, the giant octopus, to sleep. At last we found the treasure chest, which held a magical score. 🎼

After lunch, the parents received a few hours of free time while helpers stayed with the children. 🥰 The kacifántos children continued their adventure with music, instruments, stories and their helpers, while the parents had a chance to recharge.

The third day became our favourite. After breakfast, our first guests were Bélaműhely. Their guiding principle and our goal are the same: musical experiences belong to everyone! ❤🎼

The Bélaműhely team designs and builds instruments and sound-making devices, often from recycled materials, and leads interactive sessions. At the Balaton camp we got to know both their instruments and the people behind them, and we would happily meet them again at any time.

The instruments – including the hordonka, metalofon, járólapofon, betonvasofon and bikeofon – were brilliant. So were their craftsmanship and the team itself: the way they paid attention and tuned in to us.

We gave and received an extraordinary musical and human experience from one another – and that is how our world became one.
