The child is cared for by a biological or adoptive parent.
GYOD – support for care at home
GYOD is a monthly Hungarian benefit for a parent caring at home for a child who cannot perform self-care because of a severe disability or long-term illness.
Who may be eligible?
The child cannot care for themselves due to a severe disability or long-term illness.
The inability to perform self-care is confirmed by the required expert assessment.
Only one parent may receive GYOD for the same child at any one time.
Under specific strict conditions, another relative living in the same household may also qualify, for example if the previously eligible parent has died or has become unable to provide long-term care because of their own health.
Can I work while receiving it?
Yes. As a general rule, work performed away from home may not exceed four hours per day. This time limit does not apply to work performed at home.
Service time and contribution
The period during which GYOD is paid counts as pension service time. Subject to statutory exceptions, a pension contribution is deducted from the benefit.
Not means-tested
Eligibility centres on the child's condition and care needs. Other regular cash benefits may, however, affect the amount payable.
